Job Title:  Systems Engineer
 

Duties and responsibilities:

·         Install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software

·         Install and configure computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals; pull cable and rewire or direct the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office/business restructure

·         Troubleshoot issues with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment problems; make repairs and corrections where required

·         Act as a technical resource in resolving issues with equipment and data; staff a centralized help desk for business improvement

·         Perform preventative maintenance on PC equipment, install required software patches, ensure the connectivity of PC’s, laptops, handhelds and other computing devices to both the local area network and wide area network, set up and maintain locally connected and networked printers and connect needed peripheral equipment.  Performance and capacity planning: monitor, reconfigure and tune network hardware, firewalls, and load balancers for performance improvements and future scalability.

·         Make hardware and software acquisition recommendations including helping clients assess needs and providing justification for equipment and services.

·         Assist in instructing clients in the use of standard business software, including word processing, spreadsheets and database management; provide instruction or written documentation where required.

·         Possess strong people skills and the ability to actively listen to the concerns and needs of clients; strong time management skills; ability to adequately document network problems and their associated solutions for future reference.  

·         Assist with planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintain current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommend modifications as necessary.

·         Participate in shared on-call schedule.

·         Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.   


 

Education and Experience:

Bachelors Degree or equivalent, and two years experience in related field.

Physical Demands:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.  Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk; use hands to feel, finger, or handle; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Licenses:

Must possess (or acquire) and maintain a valid New Mexico class C drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.
 

Knowledge of: (at entry)

Computer hardware, software and peripherals such as workstations, servers, monitors, cables, network systems, firewalls, routers, printers, plotters, etc;

Functions and operations of business related technology and administrative applications and related hardware and software;

Current technology related to networks and telecommunications and the equipment and software required to maximize system support;

Procedures for installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting and repairing applicable software, hardware and peripherals;

Principles, practices, hardware and software related to the establishment and maintenance of LAN’s and WAN’s;

Techniques for explaining technical concepts and procedures to non- technical users.
 

Skill in: (at entry)

Installing, configuring and upgrading operating systems and software, using standard financial, business and administrative applications;

Installing, configuring, assembling and repairing computers, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers and other hardware;

Monitoring LAN’s and WAN’s;

Troubleshooting and solving hardware and software issues;

Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines and procedures;

Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical time deadlines; and communicating effectively with co-workers, subordinates, superiors, the clients, representatives of clients and vendor organizations.
 

Compensation:

The candidate must be willing to relocate to Albuquerque Office after 6 to 12 months of service in Gallup, NM.  The salary level of the IT Systems Engineer will depend on a number factors including the abilities, training, and skill level of candidate.  This job opening has a salary range of $50,000 to $65,000 (negotiable) per year, with the potential to grow based on performance.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

Associate Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Two years experience in related field

A+ Certification

Network+ Certification
